The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Donald W. Sentz (ASN: RA-13275104), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company A, 1st Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. During the early morning hours of 19 September 1950, hostile forces launched repeated attacks against the perimeter of a rifle company in the vicinity of Chungam-ni, Korea. During the initial attack, Sergeant Sentz directed mortar fire to within thirty yards of the forward positions. Repeatedly exposing himself to the intense hostile fire during subsequent attacks, he directed such ac curate mortar fire on the attacking horde that forty-six enemy were killed and numerous were wounded. Sergeant Sentz’s conspicuous courage and military skill enabled his unit to hold a vital sector and are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
