Headquarters, U.S. Army Forces in the South Pacific Area, General Orders No. 1051 (July 7, 1944)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fifth Grade Henry M. Searcy (ASN: 14068616), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving as a Medical Aidman with the 129th Infantry Regiment, 37th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy at Bougainville, Solomon Islands, on 15 February 1944. Technician Fifth Grade Searcy rescued a severely wounded man from an exposed position at Bougainville, Braving intense enemy fire, he made his way over rugged terrain to reach the wounded man. After applying first aid he then carried the soldier to the bivouac area. At one point during his return, Technician Fifth Grade Searcy had to cross a stream bed in full view of hostile riflemen and machine gunners but, in spite of the danger, made the crossing safely although the Japanese laid down intense fire in an attempt to halt him. Technician Fifth Grade Searcy’s outstanding courage and fidelity to duty were responsible for saving the life of a wounded comrade. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Technician Fifth Grade Searcy, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
