The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Medical Corps) Gerald J. Schwab (ASN: 0-62961), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Medical Company, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 3 December 1950 near Huksu-ri, Korea, the 2d Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment, under strong pressure from numerically superior enemy forces, was making a withdrawal down a narrow icy mountain road swept by heavy enemy fire. Heedless of his personal safety, Captain Schwab repeatedly exposed himself to enemy fire as he moved up and down the road giving medical attention to the wounded. Captain Schwab’s bravery and devotion to duty inspired courage and confidence, and reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
