Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 82 (April 14, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Corporal William G. Scurr (ASN: RA-13300037), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of the Heavy Mortar Company, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 30 November 1950 in the vicinity of Kunu-ri, Korea. Corporal Scurr’s company, in a motorized column, was attempting to break through a fire-swept enemy roadblock. During the march, his vehicle was struck and disabled by heavy hostile automatic weapons fire. After finding cover in a ditch along the road, he observed that another vehicle had been destroyed and that its three wounded occupants were unable to seek shelter. With utter disregard for his personal safety, he dashed through the deadly enemy fire striking all about him, made his way to the vehicle and carried a comrade to the safety of the ditch. After rendering first aid and making the man as comfortable as possible, Corporal Scurr again fearlessly moved toward the vehicle to recover another wounded. Before he reached the vehicle, he was struck and seriously wounded by hostile fire. The gallantry and devotion to his fallen comrades displayed by Corporal Scurr reflect the highest credit upon himself are in keeping with the fine traditions of the military service.
