    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class John G. Schneider (ASN: US-55024015), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company K, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 29 July 1951 in the vicinity of Taeusan, Korea. On that date during an attack on well-fortified enemy positions, the platoon was pinned down by intense enemy small arms, automatic weapons, grenades, and mortar fire. When enemy fire wounded the squad leader, Private Schneider assumed command and reorganized the squad. He then led the squad in an assault on an enemy machine gun emplacement, destroying it completely. He continued to advance, using marching fire and grenades, routing the enemy from their positions and inflicting numerous casualties upon them. Private Schneider’s heroic action forced the enemy to withdraw, enabling his platoon to advance and secure its objective. The gallantry in action demonstrated by Private Schneider reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.

    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Bronze Star Medal with Combat “V” to Private First Class [then Private] John G. Schneider (ASN: US-55024015), United States Army, for heroic achievement on 17 May 1951 in the vicinity of Pungchon-ni, Korea. Private Schneider, serving as a rifleman in one of two squads engaged in a counterattack upon the hill on which a battalion outpost was located, distinguished himself by his personal bravery and military ability. Although his squad was subjected to intense enemy small arms fire, Private Schneider engaged in a vicious assault with grenades and rifle fire and finally attacked the enemy with fixed bayonet, completely routing the opposition and inflicting heavy casualties upon them. The aggressiveness of Private Schneider inspired the other members of his squad to carry the attack to its successful conclusion, which resulted in the effective restoration of the original line and prevented enemy breakthrough. The heroism demonstrated by Private Schneider reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
