The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technical Sergeant William T. Savage, United States Army, for gallantry in action in the India-Burma Theater of Operations, in action against the enemy near Namhpakka, Burma, on 20 January 1945. When his platoon was pinned down by enemy automatic weapons fire, Technical Sergeant Savage crawled forward and killed the enemy gun crew with his sub-machine gun and hand grenades. The courage and bravery displayed by Technical Sergeant Savage reflect great credit upon himself and exemplify the highest traditions of the Armed Forces of the United States.
