The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Henry A. Saggau (ASN: US-55085044), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company F, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 23 September 1951 in the vicinity of Yanggu, Korea. On this date Company F was attacking well fortified enemy positions. During the ensuing action intense automatic weapons and small arms fire from numerous hostile emplacements inflicted many casualties upon the assaulting forces. Corporal Saggau, sighting a wounded comrade, helpless and unable to move, immediately went to his aid. Disregarding his own safety, he crawled over the hazardous terrain under intense enemy fire and upon reaching the fallen man, administered first aid. Returning through the hostile fire, he carried the wounded man to safety. His courageous action was an inspiration to all who observed him and was directly responsible for saving the life of his comrade. The gallantry in action and devotion to duty displayed by Corporal Saggau on this occasion reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
