Headquarters 1st Cavalry Division, General Orders No: 10836 (June 21, 1970)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Staff Sergeant Ronald Ray Sagers (ASN: 482524192), United States Army, for gallantry in connection with military operations against an opposing armed force in the Republic of Cambodia, while serving with Company D, 1st Battalion (Airmobile), 5th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile). When a large number of enemy snipers suddenly fired, wounding several friendly troops, including Staff Sergeant Sagers, he began treating and evacuating the wounded. Placing his men in a defensive perimeter, he then moved from position to position to maintain control and encourage his comrades. His gallant action was in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service, and reflects great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
