The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Bronze Star Medal with Combat “V” to Sergeant Donald W. Sackett (ASN: US-51054552), United States Army, for heroic achievement as a member of Company C, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division on 18 May 1951 in the vicinity of Kunmul-gol, Korea. When his battalion was ordered to withdraw on that date, Private Sackett voluntarily fought a rear guard action. While the battalion was withdrawing to better positions under enemy small arms fire, he was instrumental in dispersing the enemy, thus enabling his unit to take up better positions. The heroism displayed by Private Sackett reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
