Headquarters, 3d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 455 (October 20, 1953)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Master Sergeant Francis J. Rossetti (ASN: RA-31504089), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company K, 3d Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. During the early morning hours of 24 June 1953, in the vicinity of Chat-Kol, Korea, a numerically superior enemy force, supported by artillery and mortar fire, commenced an attack on the Company K sector of the main line of resistance. Sergeant Rossetti, a platoon sergeant, immediately ran through the heavy enemy bombardment, giving directions and effectively deploying his men. In the ensuing battle, he repeatedly exposed himself to enemy fire in moving from position to position, administering first aid and offering words of encouragement. Learning of a penetration of the line on the left flank, he rapidly organized a counterattacking force and aggressively led it in clearing the adjacent positions of the foe, personally mortally wounding several enemy troops. His courageous actions contributed materially to the successful defense of the sector with a minimum of friendly casualties. Sergeant Rossetti’s outstanding gallantry and devotion to duty reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
