The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Tenney Kutz Ross (ASN: 0-057338), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company L, 3d Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy near Kojangni, North Korea, Korea, on 6 November 1950. First Lieutenant Ross distinguished himself when his motorized patrol was subjected to intense automatic weapons fire. Organizing his force for an attack, he repeatedly exposed himself to the deadly barrage in a vain attempt to drive the numerically superior enemy from their commanding emplacements. Ordering his men to displace, he remained with the rear guard elements to conduct a series of delaying actions and to ensure the evacuation of all the wounded. While in the performance of his mission, he was mortally wounded. First Lieutenant Ross’ valorous leadership, indomitable spirit, and unremitting devotion to duty and to his men enhance the high traditions of the United States Armed Forces.
