Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 215 (June 24, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Robert C. Rose (ASN: ER-52025249), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company L, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 19 May 1951, in the vicinity of Pungchon-ni, Korea. Company L had been under heavy enemy attack for two days. The enemy, by sheer weight of numbers, finally overran the company command post and ten of its bunker positions. Corporal Rose, a squad leader, was ordered with his squad to counterattack and regain the position. Without hesitation, Corporal Rose placed himself at the head of his squad and fearlessly charged into the intense enemy fire. His courageous leadership and skillful deployment of his men enabled his squad to accomplish its mission and restore the positions expeditiously and with a minimum of casualties. The gallantry displayed by Corporal Rose reflects great credit upon himself and upholds the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
