Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 21 (January 26, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Field Artillery) Harold F. Ronk (ASN: 0-1172630), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 15th Field Artillery Battalion, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 26 November 1950 near Kujang-dong, Korea. On the morning of this date the command post of an infantry regiment, which his unit was supporting, came under enemy mortar fire which severed the wire lines leading to the artillery switchboard. Because of the increased enemy activity in that sector, it was imperative that this primary means of communications, in the infantry-artillery network, be re-established as soon as possible. Captain Ronk organized a wire crew and went forward to repair the line. Due to the intense enemy fire falling in the area, he left his men in a defilade position and personally searched for the broken line. Although he succeeded in accomplishing his mission, he was seriously wounded and had to be evacuated. His gallant and unselfish act enabled the artillery to deliver accurate fire upon the enemy which finally forced them to withdraw. Captain Ronk’s devotion to duty with utter disregard for his own safety reflect the highest credit upon himself are in keeping with the fine traditions of the military service.
