The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Trinidad Rojas (ASN: RA-18311175), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company L, 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 1 February 1951, near Ip’ori, Korea. On that date he was an automatic rifleman in an infantry unit which was in defensive positions under attack by a large enemy force. Heavy enemy fire forced the unit to withdraw to new positions, but Corporal Rojas remained to cover the withdrawal of his unit, exposing himself to heavy automatic weapons and small arms fire. Before withdrawing he personally accounted for several enemy dead. His delaying action made it possible for his unit to re-establish its lines and to repel the enemy attacks. The gallant conduct of Corporal Rojas on this occasion reflects great credit upon himself and upholds the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
