The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant W. L. Rogers (ASN: RA-38357934), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company H, 2d Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 18 December 1950 at Hungnam, Korea, Sergeant Rogers’ unit was under attack by a strong enemy force. Sergeant Rogers was adjusting mortar fire on the enemy when he was wounded in his left knee by enemy fire. Despite the fact that the wound was bleeding profusely and causing intense pain, Sergeant Rogers remained at his post and continued to call for and adjust effective mortar fire on the enemy. Sergeant Rogers remained in this condition for two and one-half hours until the enemy attack had been repelled before he was evacuated. Sergeant Rogers’ gallant action and courage under fire bring great credit upon himself and the military service.
