The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Corporal Roy Eugene Roe (ASN: RA-15425371), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company A, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 12 September 1951 in the vicinity of Taeusan, Korea. On this date, while Company A was attacking an enemy-held hill, Corporal Roe delivered many vital messages to the various units. Constantly under hostile fire it was necessary for him to crawl along the ground, often throwing hand grenades in order to reach his objective. Later, upon noticing a critical need for ammunition, Corporal Roe made several trips from the supply point to the forward positions, delivering the much needed ammunition. He further assisted by aiding the evacuation of his seriously wounded comrades, and continued in this gallant manner until fatally wounded by enemy mortar fire. The gallantry in action displayed by Corporal Roe reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
