Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 140 (March 13, 1952)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal [then Private First Class] Robert B. Rodriguez (ASN: US-56141932), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company F, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 27 August 1951 in the vicinity of Yanggu, Korea. On that date, Company F had secured a vital position on Hill 700 and was defending it against an enemy counterattack. During the ensuing action, the intense hostile fore inflicted numerous friendly casualties. Corporal Rodriguez, observing several wounded comrades lying exposed to the enemy fire, crossed the hazardous terrain to assist the men. Returning through the fire-swept terrain, he led his wounded comrades to positions of safety and directed the aidmen in their evacuation. His dauntless courage and selfless devotion to duty were an inspiration to all who observed him, and undoubtedly saved the lives of many men who otherwise might have died of wounds. The gallantry in action displayed by Corporal Rodriguez will live forever in the hearts of his comrades.
