Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 88 (November 9, 1950)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class William Lester Robinson (ASN: RA-14328670), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company D, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 10 August 1950 in the vicinity of Yongsan, Korea. During a strong counterattack by the enemy on Company D’s positions, four enemy soldiers penetrated the defensive lines and engaged two members of the company at close quarters. Observing this, Private Robinson, with complete indifference for his personal safety, left the security of his foxhole and dashed to the assistance of his hard pressed comrades. Engaging the enemy in hand-to-hand combat he killed two of them, and enabled his comrades to kill the other two. In this gallant action, Private Robinson sustained mortal wounds. The intrepidity and selflessness of Private Robinson in sacrificing his life for his comrades provides a lasting tribute to himself and to the Infantry and are in keeping with the highest ideals of the military service.
