Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 880 (1951) , Amended by General Orders No. 16 (January 15, 1952) & General Orders No. 86 (1952)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Second Lieutenant (Infantry) Robert Webb Robinson (ASN: 0-62609), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company B, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 4 September 1950 in the vicinity of Yong-san, Korea. On this date Company B was attacking well defended enemy hill positions near the Naktong River. As the assaulting elements, led by Lieutenant Robinson, neared the objective, intense hostile automatic weapons and small arms fire forced them back. During the withdrawal, Lieutenant Robinson remained behind and repeatedly exposed himself to the enemy fire while assisting the wounded to safety. When the unit reorganized and launched another assault, he again faced the relentless fire of the enemy. Because many in his platoon were Koreans and unable to understand all instructions, it was necessary for him to place each man in position regardless of the danger to himself. In a desperate attempt to secure the objective he advanced forward into the face of hostile fire and killed the occupants of a machine gun emplacement. Now free to continue, friendly troops overran all opposition to complete the mission. The gallantry in action and devotion to duty displayed by Lieutenant Robinson reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
