The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Infantry) Ralph R. Robinson (ASN: 0-1307120), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Headquarters, 2d Battalion, 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 28 November 1950, in the vicinity of Kunu-ri, Korea. Captain Robinson was reconnoitering a possible route for the withdrawal of the 2d Battalion when he contacted elements of the 9th Infantry Regiment which was momentarily stopped by an enemy roadblock. Deciding that further reconnaissance was necessary to determine the strength of the block, he proceeded around the halted vehicles until he was stopped by a road jam of destroyed equipment and vehicles. His party was suddenly subjected to intense enemy fire from high ground on both sides of the road. With complete disregard for his own safety Captain Robinson remained in an exposed position and ordered his men out of their holes to clear the road for movement of the column through the block. Though wounded during this action he continued to direct the fire of his riflemen upon the enemy to alleviate the pressure on the convoy. Realizing the strength of the enemy at this point, he reported to the battalion commander who selected a more suitable route. The battalion was able to make an orderly withdrawal without a casualty. The gallant conduct displayed by Captain Robinson on this occasion reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
