The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant John D. Robins (ASN: RA-13231437), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company F, 2d Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 24 May 1951, the Second Platoon of Company F was given the mission of supporting a tank platoon in an assault on an enemy-held road junction near Habae-jae, Korea. Sergeant Robins unhesitatingly led his squad forward in the face of intense enemy small arms, automatic weapons, and mortar fire. When the automatic rifleman was seriously wounded and the squad rapidly became disorganized, Sergeant Robins moved about among his men, urging them onward and directing their fire and movement. His actions so instilled courage and confidence in the infantrymen that they redoubled their efforts and effected a complete rout of the enemy. Sergeant Robins’ gallantry under fire reflects great credit upon himself and exemplifies the high traditions of the military service.
