The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Corporal Eugene R. Robinette (ASN: US-25931801), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company K, 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 10 February 1951 in the vicinity of Chipyong-ni, Korea. Corporal Robinette was a member of the assault platoon which was leading the company in an attack against Hill 444. The platoon’s advance was halted by intense fire delivered from a hostile machine gun emplaced on the crest of the hill. Corporal Robinette, with complete disregard for his personal safety, leaped to his feet and dashed forward into the point blank machine gun fire in a single-handed charge. Firing his rifle, he advanced to a position from where he hurled hand grenades into the enemy position, destroying it. As he pushed forward to attack other emplacements, he was struck and killed by enemy fire. The gallantry and selfless devotion to duty displayed by Corporal Robinette reflect the highest credit upon himself are in keeping with the fine traditions of the military service.
