(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: First Lieutenant John A. Risendal, United States Army, was awarded the Silver Star for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity as a member of Company B, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division, in action against enemy aggressor forces in Korea. First Lieutenant Risendal broke up an enemy attack in a one-man charge and rescued his wounded radio operator near Okkya-ri, Korea. He fearlessly charged the group firing his 45 caliber pistol and throwing grenades wounding several of the foes. His courageous action broke up the attack and aided his comrades in establishing a new base of fire. Disregarding himself, he carried his wounded radio operator to a position of safety and returned to organize a withdrawal.
