(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Colonel (Infantry) Richard Allen Risden, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving as Commanding Officer of the 17th Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy near Chich’on, Korea, in 1952. Colonel Risden personally led a platoon-size force in a raid on enemy positions deep into enemy-held territory, during which he and several members of the force were wounded. Despite heavy artillery fire from enemy positions, he remained with the critically wounded, personally administering first aid and helping to evacuate all casualties to friendly lines. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Colonel Risden, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
