The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant George Rimkus (ASN: RA-17253381), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company L, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 15 and 16 September 1950, in the vicinity of Changnyong, Korea. During a two-day attack by numerically superior enemy forces, Sergeant Rimkus, with complete disregard for his own safety, moved out in front of his company’s positions to a point from which he could better direct mortar fire on the attacking enemy forces. Many times he was forced to beat off attacking enemy with small arms and grenade fire in order to hold his position. For two days and nights Sergeant Rimkus held his position until a friendly counterattack moved forward of his position. The gallantry displayed by Sergeant Rimkus on this occasion reflects great credit upon himself and upholds the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
