(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Colonel (Infantry) Eugene Ware Ridings (ASN: 0-15230), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving as Assistant Chief of Staff (G-3), FOURTEENTH U.S. Army Corps, in action against the enemy at Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands, on 30 January 1943. Colonel Ridings displayed courage, self-control, and presence of mind, braving intense machine gun and rifle fire to give first aid to a mortally wounded Infantry officer. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Colonel Ridings, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
