(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) William Rowland Richardson, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving as a platoon leader in an Infantry Company of the 32d Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy near Kumhwa, Korea, on 20 October 1952. Although pinned down by sniper fire, he directed his troops in setting up a machine gun which inflicted many casualties on the enemy. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by First Lieutenant Richardson, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
