The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Armor) Delzie C. Revels (ASN: 0-948089), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company B, 64th Heavy Tank Battalion, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 6 February 1951, Lieutenant Revels was leading his tank platoon in support of an infantry company attacking an enemy-held hill near Noongak, Korea, when his 90 millimeter gun suddenly went out of action. Standing in the turret of his tank, Lieutenant Revels fired the 50 caliber machine gun and threw hand grenades at the enemy in the immediate vicinity. Being notified that communications between the two friendly units was disrupted, he left the cover of his tank in search of the Infantry Commander to reestablish contact, and, upon returning, picked up a wounded man and carried him to the safety of the tank. Then, when the infantry elements were faced with a fanatical counterattack, he again manned his 50 caliber machine gun, directing the other tanks to deliver 90 millimeter fire upon his machine gun bursts. The superb actions and leadership of Lieutenant Revels under hazardous conditions resulted in a successful withdrawal to more tenable ground. His outstanding gallantry reflects the highest credit upon himself and the military service.
