The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Corporal Edgar L. Reid (ASN: RA-18223396), United States Army, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity as a member of Company C, 1st Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division in Korea. During a counterattack by the enemy near Kwanggen, Korea, on 28 July 1950, Corporal Reid moved his squad to the top of a hill and quickly deployed it in a defensive position. In the ensuing action Corporal Reid captured an enemy machine gun and directed fire from the captured weapon on the attacking force until the weapon became inoperable. Again reorganizing his squad, Corporal Reid, although exposed to intense enemy fire, moved about the positions encouraging and advising his men. When the enemy launched a second counterattack later in the morning, Corporal Reid was mortally wounded by artillery fire. Through his indomitable fighting spirit, great initiative and exemplary leadership, Corporal Reid set an example which culminated in repulse of the enemy counterattack. His actions were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service.
