Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 541 (September 26, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Corporal Harvey L. Register (ASN: RA-14300940), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company A, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 26 July 1951 in the vicinity of Taeusan, Korea. On that date, Company A had the mission of securing a strategic hill well fortified by a numerically superior enemy force. Corporal Register, as lead scout of his squad, led his men forward in the attack. Upon learning that another squad of his platoon was being ambushed, he immediately set up defensive positions and directed fire upon the hostile force. He succeeded in dispersing him and remained in this position until friendly troops withdrew to better positions. During this action, Corporal Register was fatally wounded by enemy machine gun fire. The gallantry in action demonstrated by Corporal Register reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
