The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Robert Refaniti (ASN: RA-13257482), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2d Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 23 May 1951, near Habae-jae, Korea, the 2d Battalion, 15th Infantry attacked Hills 925 and 1075. While serving as communications lineman, Private Refaniti continuously exposed himself to enemy observation, small arms, and automatic weapons fire in order to maintain vital communications between the battalion command post and the assault companies. After Hill 1075 had been secured and the forward units had established a defensive perimeter for the night, the wire line to the command post suddenly became broken. Although the area was receiving heavy enemy small arms fire, Private Refaniti voluntarily went outside the perimeter and skillfully made the necessary repairs. Private Refaniti’s gallant actions were instrumental in maintaining communications throughout the night and reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
