The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Sergeant First Class Louis Albert Raymond (ASN: RA-11149122), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company B, 1st Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 30 March 1951, near Kwangam-ni, Korea, as the third platoon of Company B moved in to attack Hill 305, Sergeant Raymond was at the rear of the platoon with his weapons squad. When the platoon was suddenly pinned down by intense enemy machine gun fire, he moved his squad into a forward position to return the hostile fire. Unable to locate the hidden weapon, Sergeant Raymond, deliberately and fearlessly exposing himself in an effort to draw the fire of the enemy gun and thereby reveal its position, was mortally wounded by a burst of fire from the concealed machine gun. Through his heroic action, his men were enabled to quickly destroy the disclosed enemy position and the platoon was allowed to continue and complete its mission. Sergeant Raymond’s gallantry and selfless devotion to duty and to his comrades reflects great credit upon himself and are in keeping with the high traditions of the military service.
