Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 106 (May 13, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Field Artillery), [then Second Lieutenant] Lynn R. Raybould (ASN: 0-61709), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Battery C, 37th Field Artillery Battalion, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 21 September 1950 in the vicinity of Changnyong, Korea. Lieutenant Raybould was an artillery forward observer attached to a rifle company which was under attack by an enemy force of estimated battalion strength. The hostile assault carried to within hand grenade range of his position and enemy mortar shells were dropping in the proximity of his observation post. In spite of these hazards, Lieutenant Raybould manned his post, directing and adjusting accurate artillery fire on the assaulting enemy and constantly exposing himself to better view his targets. His heroic actions were instrumental in preventing the enemy from breaking through friendly lines and assured the integrity of the Naktong River bridgehead which had been established by the 23d Infantry Regiment. The gallantry displayed by Lieutenant Raybould reflects the highest great upon himself is in keeping with the fine traditions of the military service.
