The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Lloyd Ivo Ragar (Rager) (ASN: US-5505923), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company C, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 26 July 1951 in the vicinity of Taeusan, Korea. On this date, during an assault on strongly fortified enemy positions, Company C was confronted by well-built hostile bunkers. Private Ragar, despite the intense hostile fire and with complete disregard for his personal safety, voluntarily assaulted the hostile emplacements throwing hand grenades. He continued in this manner, inflicting numerous casualties upon the enemy forces and destroying many of their bunkers until he was fatally wounded by the enemy fire. His dauntless courage and self-sacrificing devotion to duty were an inspiration to his comrades and enabled them to continue their attack with a minimum of casualties. The gallantry in action displayed by Private Ragar on this occasion reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
