The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Master Sergeant Edwin L. Rager (ASN: RA-39477671), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company G, 2d Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 28 November 1950 near Ipsok, Korea, Master Sergeant Rager voluntarily remained while his unit displaced to new positions. Although his weapon was blown from his hand under the intense barrage of small arms, automatic weapons, hand grenades and mortar fire, he calmly proceeded to carry his comrades out of the draw. When mortar concussion blasted him off the hill, he resolutely continued his mission until all the wounded had been evacuated from possible capture or death. Master Sergeant Rager’s courage, determination and selfless devotion to his fellow soldiers are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
