Headquarters, 3d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 147 (May 17, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Marcelino P. Quigtar (ASN: RA-29040926), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company C, 1st Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 23 March 1951, near Uijongbu, Korea, Private Quigtar’s unit was making the final assault on Hill 155, the company objective. In the process of the assault, he discovered a series of enemy entrenchments and foxholes on the left flank of the platoon and, with complete disregard for his own safety, jumped into the emplacements to find and destroy the enemy. The concealed enemy hurled grenades at him, blowing off his helmet and blasting him out of the trench. Immediately he charged back into the trench and at close range killed four of the enemy. Private Quigtar’s quick thinking and aggressiveness prevented the enemy from placing surprise sweeping fire on the assaulting unit. His gallantry and courage reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
