The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Corporal Charles H. Quasius (ASN: RA-19335555), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company A, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 26 July 1951 in the vicinity of Taeusan, Korea. On that date, Company A spearheaded an attack against a well fortified enemy-held hill. After advancing several hundred yards, the unit was subjected to intense fire from a well-entrenched enemy. Corporal Quasius, with complete disregard for his personal safety, courageously attacked the hostile position with hand grenades and rifle fire, destroying him. In so doing, he was mortally wounded, but by his self-sacrificing action, the company was able to move forward and carry out its mission successfully. The gallantry in action displayed by Corporal Quasius reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
