Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 598 (October 12, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Bernard Pular (ASN: RA-15292549), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company B, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 1 September 1951 in the vicinity of Mandae-ri, Korea. On that date Company B was attacking a well fortified enemy-held hill when heavy hostile fire halted its advance. Realizing that the company was suffering many casualties and would soon be rendered ineffective as a fighting unit, Corporal Pular armed himself with grenades and made his way toward the enemy emplacements. Throwing grenades upon enemy positions, he succeeded in inflicting numerous enemy casualties and destroying their emplacements. Returning to his company’s position, Corporal Pular resupplied himself with grenades and continued this heroic feat until the enemy had suffered considerably. He then returned to his unit and led his men forward until he was painfully wounded by enemy machine gun fire. His courageous actions enabled the company to successfully complete its mission with a minimum of casualties. The gallantry in action demonstrated by Corporal Pular reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
