The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Jimmie F. Pritts (ASN: RA-13257173), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company F, 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 23 August 1950 in the vicinity of Taegu, Korea. On that date his company was attacking numerically superior enemy forces. During the assault, Private Pritts’ platoon was subjected to intense hostile machine gun fire and was pinned down. Without hesitation and with complete disregard for his personal safety he left his position of cover and moved forward alone into the severe fire to engage the enemy. During his charge he was wounded but continued his intrepid advance, hurling hand grenades until he had destroyed the weapon and its crew. His heroic action enabled his platoon to resume the assault and secure its objective with a minimum of casualties. The gallantry displayed on this occasion by Private Pritts reflects the highest great upon himself is in keeping with the fine traditions of the military service.
