The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Oscar H. Prince (ASN: RA-18331097), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 27 May 1951, in the vicinity of Inje, North Korea. On that date he was a member of a communications team, operating in a sector which had been by-passed by friendly assault units. At approximately 1300 hours, he noticed a group of Engineers working on segments of a broken road, when suddenly the group was subjected to intense mortar and sniper fire which wounded seven men. As no aid man was available at the time, he immediately volunteered to go to the aid of the wounded men. With complete disregard for his personal safety, he remained in an exposed position, administering to the wounded, and stopping only to pick up his rifle and kill an enemy sniper. He remained exposed to the murderous hail of enemy fire until all of the wounded were successfully evacuated. The gallant conduct of Private Prince on this occasion was undoubtedly responsible for saving the lives of the wounded men, and reflected great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
