(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain (Infantry) Daniel Chapman Prescott (0-27837), United States Army, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight while serving with the Aviation Section, 3d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Korea from 1950 to 1951. Captain Prescott’s outstanding courage and dedication to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.

Headquarters, 3d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 315 (July 26, 1951)The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Infantry) Daniel Chapman Prescott (0-27837), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a Pilot with Headquarters Company, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 9 December 1950, when the 1st Marine Division was surrounded and isolated by a numerically superior enemy force in the vicinity of Kotori, Korea, Captain Prescott unhesitatingly volunteered to aid in the evacuation of the wounded. Piloting a liaison type aircraft, he flew two missions over mountainous terrain and landed on an extremely short airstrip which was constantly subjected to intense enemy fire. As a result of his exemplary bravery, two seriously wounded infantrymen were evacuated to safety where they received adequate medical attention. Captain Prescott’s gallantry and aggressiveness reflects great credit upon himself and are in keeping with the esteemed traditions of the military service.
