The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant First Class Clyde O. Prescott (ASN: RA-38656698), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company C, 64th Heavy Tank Battalion, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 3 June 1951, a tank column of Company C was ambushed by a strong enemy force in the vicinity of Chail-li, Korea. The tank in which Sergeant Prescott was riding was hit by enemy fire and burst into flames, and the crew immediately abandoned the tank. Although seriously wounded in the explosion, Sergeant Prescott, realizing that the vehicle contained the only radio with which vital communications could be maintained, voluntarily climbed back into the burning tank. Despite his painful wounds and the increasing intensity of the hostile fire, he established radio contact with the battalion and gave a concise report of the transpiring action. With this information, the remainder of the company was able to move into position and give valuable assistance to the beleaguered column. Sergeant Prescott’s gallant and aggressive actions reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
