The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Captain (Infantry) George Alexander Campbell, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near St. Mihiel, France, 12 September 1918. Captain Campbell displayed exceptional bravery, when, with three men, he preceded his battalion into Le Jolie Bois and captured three machine guns and 20 prisoners which had been maintaining a heavy fire upon our lines.
