The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Blaine Pollock (ASN: RA-20925666), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company C, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 24 September 1950 in the vicinity of Huopchon, Korea. On that date he was a member of a platoon which had the mission of securing and holding a bitterly defended enemy-held hill. The enemy, entrenched on the top of the ridge, subjected the advancing platoon to intense automatic weapons cross fire which halted the attack. Private Pollock, a light machine gunner, picked up his machine gun and moved forward into the fire-swept area employing marching fire against the enemy. With complete disregard for his personal safety he continued his intrepid advance firing his weapon from the hip and led his comrades in a final rush which drove the enemy from the ridge. The gallantry displayed on this occasion by Private Pollock reflects great credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
