Headquarters, U.S. Army Forces in the South Pacific Area, General Orders No. 63 (March 17, 1943)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Adolph J. Pisny (ASN: 17003900), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 25th Infantry Division, in action on 20 January 1943, at Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands. Sergeant Pisny personally destroyed three enemy machine gun positions, aided by persistent rifle fire from his squad. He stealthily approached to a point where he could hurl the dynamite into the pill-boxes. By eliminating this resistance a rifle platoon was able to advance and obtain its objective. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
