The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant John T. Lamb, United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a C-123 pilot at Nhon Co Special Forces Camp, Republic of Vietnam, on 1 September 1970. On that date, Lieutenant Lamb was called upon to divert his aircraft for the emergency extraction of a gravely ill child. Despite adverse weather conditions, hazardous terrain, and the menace of hostile forces, Lieutenant Lamb and his crew successfully evacuated the child, thus saving his life. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Lieutenant Lamb reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
