The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Sergeant First Class Forrest Leroy Peters (ASN: RA-20936299), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company B, 1st Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. A company attack in the vicinity of Chindong-ni, Korea, on 19 September 1950, was repulsed twice by intense small arms fire from a determined enemy occupying commanding positions on high ground. Skillfully deploying his squad, Sergeant First Class Peters led it in a vigorous assault which neutralized the strongpoint. During the attack he killed five enemy soldiers and eliminated one emplacement with hand grenades. Sergeant First Class Peters courage, aggressive leadership and military skill reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
