The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Jose L. Perdomo (ASN: 0-1340106), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company I, 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 18 May 1951, in the vicinity of Chaun-ni, Korea. On that date he was a platoon leader in an infantry unit which was under heavy enemy attack. The enemy had taken the high ground on the company’s right flank, and had pinned down his platoon. With complete disregard for his personal safety, Lieutenant Perdomo exposed himself to heavy enemy small arms fire in order to call for and adjust supporting fire on the enemy-held hill. He remained in his exposed position to direct artillery, mortar, and tank fire until such time as the company was ordered to withdraw. His courageous action was the cause of heavy casualties being inflicted on the hostile force. The gallantry displayed by Lieutenant Perdomo reflects great credit upon himself and upholds the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
