Pence (ASN: 0-12042), United States Army, was awarded the Army Distinguished Service Medal for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished services to the Government of the United States, in a duty of great responsibility as Commanding General, Peninsular Base Section, Italy, from 1943 to 1944. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of General Pence and his dedicated contributions in the service of his country reflect the highest credit upon himself and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Army.
