The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Second Lieutenant (Armor) Minor Peeples, Jr. (ASN: 0-60915), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Headquarters and Service Company, 89th Medium Tank Battalion, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. During the early morning hours of 27 November 1950 near Ipsok, Korea, a numerically superior hostile force launched repeated attacks against the command post of a task force. Repeatedly exposing himself to the intense enemy mortar and artillery fire, Lieutenant Peeples deployed his men in defensive positions and personally delivered effective counterfire against the attacking force. By his valorous conduct he inspired his men to withstand the hostile onslaught and maintain the integrity of the perimeter defense. Lieutenant Peeples’ exemplary leadership and staunch devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
